Decades of water mismanagement to serve Big Sugar’s interests has disrupted the natural flow of the Everglades, sending polluted discharges into Florida’s estuaries while depriving the ecosystem of the water it needs to survive.
Restoring the flow has become one of the most important conservation efforts of our time. Over the last decade, ordinary citizens united around a common cause and helped drive historic restoration progress once thought impossible.
The consequences have impacted millions of Floridians. Florida’s water crisis is a reminder that some of society’s toughest challenges persist not for lack of solutions, but because powerful interests benefit from the status quo.
